Naturalization (N-400)

A naturalization application allows lawful permanent residents (green card holders) to apply for U.S. citizenship after meeting specific residency and eligibility requirements. Applicants must generally have lived in the U.S. for at least 5 years (or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen), demonstrate good moral character, and pass English and civics tests. Successful applicants become U.S. citizens, gaining full rights, including voting and applying for a U.S. passport.

Certificate of Citizenship (N-600)

Application for Certificate of Citizenship, allows individuals to request official documentation of their U.S. citizenship. This form is typically used by individuals who automatically acquired or derived U.S. citizenship through their parents but need proof of their citizenship status. Unlike naturalization, applicants for a Certificate of Citizenship are already U.S. citizens and do not need to go through the naturalization process.
